Project SEARCH

Empowering Young Adults Through Meaningful Work Experience

Project SEARCH is a nine-month, intensive training program that helps adults with disabilities gain real-world skills, explore career paths, and prepare for competitive community-based employment. Interns work alongside instructors, job coaches, and hospital staff to build confidence and independence.

Program Approach

Project SEARCH uses a team-based approach that includes interns, families, hospital staff, and community partners. Together, this team supports interns as they prepare for competitive employment.

After graduation, interns receive continued support in finding competitive, community-based employment that aligns with their interests and skills.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Each day begins with classroom instruction focused on topics such as budgeting, stress management, social skills, community resources, and other life skills related to adulthood and employment.

Most of the day is spent working at an assigned internship site within the hospital. The day concludes with a short debrief and review to reflect on progress and learning.

Program Schedule

The program runs Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Project SEARCH follows a school-year schedule and operates from September through May. Interns will have scheduled days off throughout the year, and a full calendar with rotation dates and days off will be provided.

Community Partnerships

Project SEARCH is a collaborative program supported by several community partners. One key partner is the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). All interns work with DVR staff as they prepare for and pursue community employment after graduation.

Long-term care providers such as Inclusa also support interns during the program and may assist with tuition costs and ongoing services.
